A Hungry Chef is taking over the Killer Queen kitchen!
Our own Chef Kyle West is taking a much deserved vacation and A Hungry Chef (by Chef Michael Murtha) is taking over our menu with his very own pop up from Friday, June 27 through Sunday, July 6.
Simply put, this menu is “homegrown and homemade” – A Hungry Chef’s own words. No need for buzzwords or platitudes – this is the real deal, made with AHC’s own homestead ingredients, his bakery’s fresh baked breads and treats, and his friends’ – what we call “local farmers” – vegetables, herbs, ciders, eggs, and more.
This menu features AHC’s signature sourdough soft pretzels, a Botanist and Barrel Farmhouse Cider Braised Bratwurst with pork from AHC’s pigs, blueberry pierogies stuffed with fresh bluebs picked by Ruby and Max (AHC’s kiddos), just-plucked garden greens/ cucumbers/ tomatoes, and more.
Farms and friends represented include Eno River Farms, Everfield Farm, Botanist and Barrel Cidery and Winery, Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm, Lyon Farms, Fox Farm and Forage, Durham Greens, and of course, A Hungry Chef.
About A Hungry Chef:
A Hungry Chef at his core is a creative who wants to see the process from start to finish. Over the last decade, he’s inched the starting line backwards – what he calls getting “closer” to his food.
With Asheville and Triangle standouts on his culinary resume, he slowly but surely expanded his homestead to create something of his own with his wife and two kids. Now, AHC works his own pop-ups, with new projects and collaborations always in the works in and around Durham.
The family’s homestead all started with a large garden in West Asheville, followed by a container garden at their first apartment in Raleigh, and then a huge homestead in Wake Forest. There, they started their journey raising and processing their own meat, as well as certifying their home kitchen as a bakery through the NCDA.
Their flock started with chickens, followed by rabbits, pigs, ducks, and goats. Upon their most recent move to a smaller farmhouse with more land in Durham, they welcomed more animals to their motley crew, making it their own slice of Durham paradise. Come taste a bit of the love, joy, sweat, and hard work from A Hungry Chef!
